“Stirling!” he said.

I said, “What? You can’t be serious. But that is crap.”

“Au contraire, my currant bun,” he said. “That reaches the highest pinnacle of artistic expression.”

I looked again at the exhibit, corralled as it was within a cordon of red-baked bricks. Wisely, visitors kept a distance.

“And where,” I said, “will you stamp the hallmark on that pile of dung?”
