Please, Come Play with Me

Seal at Caister beach: 17 Dec 2020

There’s a seal colony further up the coast from me. Sometimes we see their dark heads bobbing in Breydon Water, or at the harbour’s mouth. But it’s unusual to get a good view. Yet this little fella wanted to play with me, inviting me to join him in the sea. I took loads of photos. Very difficult to decide which to use. So… I’m giving you two

  1. I had a friend who got a bit too close to a seal and her pups and ended up being chased down the beach.

  2. I can see why you had a hard time picking just one. I like the look in his eyes in the second one, but I like that you can see more of his body in the first one (and can therefore see that he’s a seal). Also the lighting in the first one… Oh! Glad you posted both. What an engaging little guy! I’m ready to play. (But the water looks a little cold!)

Even when they just look like wet giant sea slugs, seals are cute. I remember running into a pod of them sunning themselves on rocks in Scotland when I visited that country years ago.
