If I Open the Door

Love called for me today
I ducked my head
Said go away
I do not want
To feel these things
The doubts, the fears
That love will bring
I had built a wall
Had hemmed me in
And learned to live
Alone again

But love called for me today
If I open the door
Will it stay?

I blame Entangled for this, challenging me to write the love stuff….

  1. You wrote the love stuff and the attendant doubts and defenses. Nicely done.

That appears to come from the heart.
    I hope it has stayed.

I loved this, such a message of hope! Is it true or fiction? If it’s true, sending good vibes for true love!!

Well this one reminds me of Billy Joel’s “An Innocent Man”
“Some people stay far away from the door
If there’s a chance of it opening up
They hear a voice in the hall outside
And hope that it just passes by”

I say open the door and let love in. Better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all, right?

    • Thanks, Judy.
But it also harks back to a time when I did… recovery can be very slow…

Yeah I know and that crossed my mind. Why does everything in life feel like the stock market, you go in with such positivity and confidence and then everything crashes.

      • I used to go in with great confidence. Now I need a ruddy great push just to dip my toe. And someone very patient with me. Or not at all. Time will tell.
Sure is interesting. All good experience for the writer… yeh?

Well there’s nothing like one’s own raw emotions to draw from. It all enriches life and the writing. Human condition Right? LOL, I used to keep a journal until I realized I could only write when in a dark, depressed mood. I’m not too literary when I’m on top of the world.

    • Yea, but now too many folks are questionning where it comes from.
Like I’m not a writer with a store of experience to call on.
      Folks are funny.

🙂 i think knowing that it connects to some part of your personal reality adds another layer of relatability for the work. Or, maybe appreciation that someone chose to share something intimate? But it doesn’t have to come from your own experiences or be real at all. And you shouldn’t be expected to explain your process. If it feels right to share, do it. Either way, it should be your choice.

      • I thank you for your wishes… but I prefer to keep my feet firmly on the ground (I’m too old to risk a fall) And no, that’s not sadly said

    Wonderfully done, Crispina.
And I say one must open the door to possibility. Whether it fails or succeeds in the end, one is not left with wondering .. should I have?

  14. Love is fleeting, just like everything else. It’s just really good when it stays for several years. 🙂
