Dead nettles are amongst the first of the wayside flowers to burst into colour. Here they’re nestling amongst a patch of thistle leaves (don’t know which thistle, I think it a garden escapee)

These are so pretty Crispina! I love the purple (my favorite color) against the green! You brought Spring to us! β€

Thank you. It’s such a humble, common plant, so easily overlooked. Yet it really is a delightfully colourful specimen.

Do they sting if you touch them?
LikeLike
Nope. They’re not even related to the stinging nettle, but to the mint and sage family

They look lovely! π

Tempted to take the view even closer. The texture of the leaves… amazing

The white-and-green striation of the leaves is amazing! Never seen anything like that.

It’s not a native British plant; clearly a garden escapee. But more than that I can’t say. I’ve not come across it was yet in flower but I’d say it’s a thistle of sorts

Thank you, Susan. Ironic, everyone is fixing on those leaves. Yet my focus was the flowers

One of my favourites, I love the white ones too.

Close ups of the white are fantastic. And \i’ve found hybrids that very slightly tinge pink
