I thought I saw an elfin troop
Their banners flying high
Banging on their elfin drums
Drubbing hearts that wandered by
Off to fight an elfin battle
All upon foot and none upon saddle
Saw the fairy troop they met
Fairies from the marshland wet
I thought I saw the hidden ones
The hour be shot with sun
I thought them spun from herbal seeds
But then I blinked and they were reeds

Having just been reading some of Yeats’ work on Irish myths and legends, I think this could fit right in.

Well, I have read, but I haven’t feasted on Yeats for years. Rather, I’d blame it on Shakespeare: alliteration, assonance, etc

Actually, I’ve been having a Shakespearean week myself. Last Sunday, we went to see an outside performance of Hamlet, this Sunday it will be Cymbeline, and in the meantime, I’m still working my way through the sonnets.

Don’t worry. Even though I’m reading them at the rate of one a day, I’m still finding them the least exciting Shakespeare I’ve read. And I’ve read “Pericles, Prince of Tyre.”

The heat wave has gone. Back to the usual British summer … sun broken by intermittent showers. If anything, the temperatures are down. Good walking weather. And you?

I would like to get away, but it’s not going to happen. So I just enjoy my days out, walking. A vacation would be walking, the same, but in a different area. I used to enjoy going to the southern counties … plenty of hills. Norfolk is notoriously flat (not entirely true, but our hills aren’t high, though they can be amazingly steep).

Have you ever thought about writing folk songs Crispina – I think you’ve got a real talent for capturing that folky atmosphere in your poems.

I have music playing from first wake to last call. Mostly it’s folk music. Omnia, Damh the Bard, Faun, Wardruna, Heilung. I like that I can’t understand half the words. Less distracting when writing. But I guess it acts as a kind of metronome.
