‘Listen,’ Kerrid said. ‘When you spin fibres to make thread, you do the spinning and the fibres are spun.’
‘Wrong, Wise-Woman.’ Huat shook his head at her. ‘I don’t spin. If I could do spinning, I wouldn’t need you to teach me, would I? You don’t know much, do you? Not for a wise-woman.’
‘Let me say this another way,’ she said, her patience hard-held. ‘When I spin fibres to make a thread, I do the spinning and the fibres are spun.’
‘Then I won’t need wood-bast to spin into a trance?’
Excerpt from Lake of Dreams, book two of The Spinner’s Game quint, currently in preparation for e-publication.
92 words written for Sammi’s Weekend Writing Prompt

Try being this end of the operation. I know by the Update numbers how long I’ve been prepping for this publication. Though, five books, a total of 650,000 words (roughly 2,500 pages) … can’t be done in a day

No I guess not.

Memory of my mother’s favourite saying (she had loads; saved her thinking) If it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing well.
Though she never approved of me as a writer, at least creative writer, writing fantasy fiction. My history posts she’d have been fine with.

You never know she may have come to like the fiction. But as you say she’d have been proud of your history posts.

No, I didn’t say she’d have been proud, just that she was more likely to approve

ok she’d approve.

Don’t dispute. But unless it brought me acclaim she’d not be proud.

Couldn’t have asked for a more perfect prompt! Can you post links to the books already published in the series?

Love to. But they’re not yet published. I’m prepping all five, and I shall publish, to kindle, all five (perhaps as 3, and then 2)
On the other hand, I do make the occasional call for beta readers; next will be for book five (the final one! Yay) which ought to come at the end of July, all being well. Then it’ll be all the twiddly bits and (I hope) publish early in the New Year. This has been a long haul.
However, if you want to read another story in the series, but not part of the quint, try Alsalda; this was posted wayback on WP in weekly installments.
Link takes you to a menu page with blurb and episode links.

I was going to say… hey, I know that little section 😉
Wonderful of you to share an excerpt of your book.
Perfect for this challenge!

I did share another excerpt, way back when I only occasionally responded to Sammi’s prompts. And if other suitable prompts come along, I shall do the same.

Why not? Nothing wrong with using a piece of your work (and sometimes having to fiddle with it to fit)

Hey. I didn’t fiddle hardly at all with this. Mostly that last line. Had to sew it up. Not enough words to have Huat trip and slip in the mud 🙂

That’s what I mean… there is a word count and to have a section be exactly the right amount… 😉

I had to cut the thread a bit short … as it were

Is one of the characters a spider? Because of the picture, that’s what I’m imagining.

I like playing with words and images. But no, both Huat and Kerrid are what we might recognise as a shamans. But Kerrid spins to entrance (whirling dervish style), while Huat has addled his wits by taking hallucinogenics

Though I ought to explain, the trance-world, admission to which they strive is the Web which supports and threads through all the worlds.

It sounds like a very complex set of ideas! Very cool.

I thank you. And my Christmas I might have completed the prepping and be ready to publish.

Niiice! You going to self-publish or roll the dice on traditional publishing?

I think it would be a brave publisher who took on an unknown with a novel (if the 5 books are taken together) that weigh in at 650k words. No, I’m not trying to emulate or outdo Robert Jordan, it just happened. So, no, I shall self-publish, with Kindle. Probably early in the new year.

Love it, love it, love it! I do think Kerrid’s wonderful and I just love these stories! Looking forward to beta reading book five – is it too early to put my name down? 😉

You name is written large. My next update is next Sunday, when I’ll speculate Book Five will be ready for betas by end of July. In the past month I’ve written 1/3 of the total, most of it new material. From here on in, it’s mostly a matter if tightening it up.
