CCC24: Knock-knock

Crimson’s Creative Challenge #24

KNOCK-KNOCK

Now who is that, come so late to complain of his fate?

KNOCK-KNOCK

Who dares to tap in the dead of night just to plead his miserable plight?

KNOCK-KNOCK

The lord turned over, ignored whoever had come to implore.
For the lord has a heart iron-bound like his door

While the iron-bound oaken door above—to be found at All Saints church, Chedgrave, in Norfolk—dates only to early C19th, it sits in a C12th doorway.

Carved arch to the door at Chedgrave church

Alas, this isn’t as glorious as the doorway at nearbyAshby St Mary which I featured in a post By the Parishioners Doorway in July last year.

I love the line’ iron bound heart’, so fitting. And you could have slipped the doorway past me you know, we Americans are so gullible when it comes to history… 😉

  2. I can’t help but hope that lord, soon after, needed to knock on a certain door, and the knock was unanswered…. ;–0
The prose goes perfectly with the door.

Beautiful doors there Crispina! and interesting. So it is a church from our perspective right? A fully operational church within a community. Just askin. 🙂

It truly is a church door. In fact I believe it’s a Saxon foundation, but apart from the carved arch to the door, it has mostly been renovated in the last 200 years. And yes, it has a congregation and its parishioners worship there.
But we can make it a door to anywhere. That’s why the tight focus. 🙂

Lovely take, Crispina (could go with my story of the man asking for help and being turned away…)
