Not all fungi like to flash their colours. Some are shy babies, not even content to lie disguised amidst autumn leaves.
These camera-shy fungi were hiding in the deep shadows beneath the roots of a wind-blown tree. But lucky for me the sun then shone! I shall say nothing of the dirty knees and the crick in the neck and the various nasties that also were there. A photographer must suffer for her craft!

I admire your fortitude, and want to eat your mushrooms… well…. maybe not.. 😉

I believe I’ve become somewhat obseesed. Though I haven’t yet begun to climb trees just to get that one special shot. Maybe next year? 🙂

And we are all the luckier for your sufferings! How serendipitous for the sun to shine her light directly on these babies!!

It happens more often then you might expect. Though not on a thoroughly overcast day. This day was on and off sunny. I had taken several photos of these fungi but didn’t hold out much hope of decent shots. Too dark under those roots. Then God loved me. And lo!

I thank you. I’m now hunting through the collection for the next Star of the Day. I’m retrying to keep each one different. So many fungi species look remarkably the same.
