Okay, so you probably know them as blackberries. But black-coloured berries proliferate in the Norfolk ‘wilds’ at this season, so let’s be specific. These are the berries of the bramble bush which offers its fruit (easy to reach for little fingers) for week upon week till the heavy frosts blight them.

Mouthwatering, eh? And growing far from traffic pollution and agricultural sprays. But they have to be picked wihen exactly right. Leave it too lte and they taste … dull.

Ooohhh… even better! My mother used to go far up north to pick blueberries… those were the best… And I know what you mean… too late and meh…

Yeah, that’s what I like about blackberries: you can keep coming back for more, for weeks, and you’ll always find some ‘just right’.

It’ll probably be ink caps, fly agaric and shaggy parasols. It fungi season. Shame I’m not confident in identifying the edible ones, cos I do like mushrooms.
