Damsels and dragons and a few butterflies camera-captured on our walk on 31st August 2026. Enjoy, these could be the last of the season…
πΌπ½β¬ All Common Darters, but variously male, female and immature
πΌπ½β¬ More Common Darters
πΌπ½ And yet more Common Darters. There really were loads!
πΌπ½β¬ Southern Migrant Hawker
πΌπ½β¬ Western Emerald Willow Spreadwing, the largest UK damselfly and quite new to our area
πΌ Green-veined White π½ Red AdmiralΒ β¬ Speckled Wood
That’s all for now. Hope you enjoyed. You probably know what Common Darters look like now. But while there wasn’t much variety, there were certainly high numbers on this walk.
Next week, something different!

I really enjoyed looking at damselflies and dragonflies, especially the Southern Migrant Hawker and the Western Emerald Willow Spreadwing. π
I’m looking forward for the next week. Enjoy your weekend ahead! βΊοΈ

Sorry, none next week. A combination of a rather painful back and drenching rain meant a cancelled walk. I’ve drawn on the archives for next week’s post. However, the following week, bonanza time!

That’s OK. Sometimes, our plans change due to unprecedented circumstances. I hope to enjoy the archives next week! βΊοΈ

Wonderful selection. I remember capturing that blue one – huge one – on my husband’s arm eons ago when we were camping. You get so many different ones!

I think I had more variety back in July. But they’re still around. Those ‘spreadwings’ fairly new to our region, are multiplying like they want to takeover!

I sometimes wonder why I take the camera out when so much wildlife visits my garden

Indeed, beautiful aren’t they. And yet, studied up close their heads and thorax are quite ugly
