In the dank heart of a dark forest
Where the oaks, the pines and the beeches can’t reach
There sodden puddles gather together until, brimming, they flow
Though that flow is glacially slow
Beneath the muddy mirey mass of leaves decaying
Beneath everything living overlaying
There the tiniest weeniest microscopic denizens do dwell
Who are they?
What are they called?
No one knows them, so no one can tell

Beautiful and intriguing Crispina.

You’re welcome. Be careful as the weather is changing.

Our weather seems to be quite fair and steady at the moment, although that won’t remain. Elsewhere in the country are having high winds and heavy rain, but for us it’s settled. Fingers crossed that I haven’t talked it up

So far, so good. Mostly UK’s worst weather arrives from the west, across the Atlantic. I live on the east coast. Usually by the time it reaches us the wind had lost its bite and the clouds are all rained-out. Usually. However, if it comes from the east, as it did in March 2018, then yea, we get it full in the face

The layers which actually make up the nature we cannot see are often more enthralling than the ones we can. I am not saying in terms of beauty, but in how intricate they are.

I had in mind the exceedingly fine network of (can’t remember the word) fungal roots

Beautiful poem, Crispina. There are so many tiniest weeniest microscopic denizens in nature, beyond our imagination.

There are indeed. My most treasured birthday gift was a ‘junior’ microscope. My word, I spent the rest of that year making slides of everything. Wow! There’s a whole world that we don’t see!
