There is a hut in Fritton Woods. Basic. Corrugated metal. It’s slowly decaying into the ground, the door and windows empty frames.

Thank you, Violet. I wouldn’t spend the night there, that’s for sure

I think it was creepy-looking even when it was in good condition!

Perhaps the locals know it?

More likely Forestry Commission would know, since that’s who owns and manages the site

All I can find is that ‘someone’ thinks it dates back to World War II when the area was used for army training. However, I don’t believe that hut is that old. And I found a heritage report which listed ‘flat-roofed’ huts, and a nissan hut (which are curved) and several concrete pads and footings. None mentioned a pitched roof hut. I think maybe it dates to the last days of the railway line that ran through here. Probably 1950s.

Could be. It is hard to find the history of an undocumented building

Our country records as a department is very good with local history. If there had been evidence when the survey was done, it would have been recorded

So, I’m sticking with 1950s, at the oldest!

I’ve used it for Crimson’s Creative Challenge, too, but from a different angle
