Fungi photos from our walk on 16th September 2025. As usual, I only name them when I’m 100% sure of the identity.
There are three major types of fungi: Cap and stipe, Bracket-like, and then there are the others. We’ll start with the cap and stipe type.
Those above are clearly grassland lovers, those below prefer woodlands
The next group of fungi behave like brackets
You’d be forgiven to believe these are only found on birch trees, but that’s just the bias of this particular environment.
And then there’s the odd ones…
There’s no mistaking this one. You smell it before you ever do see it. The stinkhorn.

Very nice array of fungi for this Friday. The one that grows out the side of a tree that appears a bit orange I have heard referred to as Chicken of the Woods.

It might be, I’m by no means an expert. But I believe the chicken grows in more of a clump, or a fan
