Sunday Picture Post: A Quiet Corner

6th August 2025 dawns bright and clear. Forecast says it’s going to get out hot but not till late in the day. So plenty of water, fruits for nibbles, let’s go. It’s a double bus ride to get to the beginning of our walk today. Happy you can join us

Today’s walk starts at the Railway Tavern in Poringland. No, no railway, never has been, but that’s a story for another day. We’re heading for Hellington via the villages, green lanes and byways. πŸ”ΌπŸ”½ While this isn’t a true green lane, it is definitely green – with masses of mistletoe hanging from the heart-leaved poplar trees

πŸ”Ό First village, Framingham Piggott. There’s also a Framingham Earl and I haven’t yet learnt where the parish boundary lies. It has the feel of a bygone age. Beautiful. However, it’s not long before we’re back in C21st πŸ”½

πŸ”½Framingham Piggott church might look old, all fancy gothic. But this is a revamp courtesy of Victorians who were crazy for all things gothic

πŸ”Ό A woodland path carries us between the lanes and cuts off a corner that I do know belongs to Framingham Earl πŸ”½ A short way along that second lane and we’ve another (long) cut along a footpath to the next village. Alpington

πŸ”Ό At Alpington cricket has taken a front seat for the summer and football temporarily set aside. πŸ”½ But their sense of humour remains.

πŸ”Ό Our final stage is through farmland πŸ”½ and a chance to approve the conditions of these free range chickens. They number in 1000s, all with a natural environment. So good to see. Not so good to smell!

We complete our walk with a stop off for light refreshments at a garden centre, then hop a bus, and another. It’s beginning to get roasting hot. So pleased to reach the cooling breezes of my coastal habitat!

Hope you enjoyed. Plenty more photos on Tuesday and Friday

It just occurred to me this morning that there is never anyone else walking where you take us each Sunday. Is there really no one? Or do you just avoid taking pictures of them since this is a nature walk/shoot? Seems like such beautiful places would attract plenty of walkers.

    • We do encounter people. But I respect their privacy and try to avoid including them in the photos. I always wonder if they’re where they’re meant to be and what trouble I could cause them by flashing their photo on internet! That hesitancy also applies to car registrations. Maybe it’s the writer in me, can reason through the consequences!

Violet has a point! And what a lovely walk you have brought us on. Wonderful to see the chickens out and about (despite their stench)!
