CCC036: The Grand Declaration

Being the eldest, the biggest, the tallest, having the greatest girth, it was only natural that he should be appointed as leader. But that wasn’t a position he wanted. Rather he’d be like the slender youngsters who gathered around him, looking, watching, anticipating. But what could he say?

“It has come late,” he said. “Yet it has come. So no more shillying, no more shallying, we now will unfurl our buds, put out our leaves and welcome the summer flowers in.” But he couldn’t help adding, “Even if the wind might freeze them into non-being.”
