1st August 2024 and I figure I can handle a longer walk. But can I manage the bus? For the outward journey, yes. So I gently climb aboard and we head south across the county border to Lowestoft from whence we’ll walk to Pakefield… and back. Please join us
Lowestoft has a quiet elegance that neighbouring Gt Yarmouth lacks
We’ve arrived early; the beach is empty… except for these. These rough-looking men are supposed to represent folk from the submerged plains of Doggerland. I have to say they looked entirely realistic until I zoomed in…
Lowestoft merges into Pakefield with nary a gap to mark the join! But the deeper beach, given over to tussocky dunes announces the change
I have to say I prefer Pakefield to Lowestoft and it’s worth the walk. The beach hut names are very inventive and humorous
But mostly I love it for the boats. Boats, boats, in all states of repair and decay…
And now for the walk back. And by now I’ve trunched over unstable stones and climbed the cliff and now I have to descend a flight of steps and, truth, I’m in pain. Maybe my leg wasn’t as abled as I’d thought. Oh well, I’ve a week to nurse it before I venture so far again!
Hope you enjoyed. I know I did

I love these colorful beach huts. Lovely walk. Take care Crispina.

Thank you. I’m afraid I rather overdid it yesterday, but I’ll recover! 🥰🥰🥰

I’m impatient, and I always think I can do more than I can. It’s a hard lesson to learn, but pain does help to drive the lesson home!

I am the same. But I did get both my knees replaced when my stomach was being destroyed by too many painkillers.

I hate to take painkillers, so harsh on the intestines. I prefer to use topical creams/gels where possible. And wouldn’t you know it, just as that leg is healing I’ve strained a muscle in my back, the other said. But I will not be defeated. Walking is the best exercise, sitting here at my desk isn’t!

Painkillers have lots of side effects. Topical gels are good but their effectiveness is limited. Heating or cooling pads are good for pain relief.

I find the pads aren’t great at adhering, especially on the lower back where underwear is all too frequently up-and-downing!

Very true. They have to be held in place

Thank you.
I have two more walks to post as yet, so we’re ok for a while. Though I must admit the last one (this Saturday past) was a little too much. It’s been a month now since the ‘mishap’ so I guess I can’t complain. It can only get better!
