Five bishops sitting on a bench
God opened the clouds and they all got drenched
The devil dried the rain
The heat came again
The bishops drank beer their thirst to quench
Served to them by a buxom wench
Now if you’ll make a refrain
We’ll begin it again.
In Norfolk, ladybirds are known as Bishy Barny-Bees, named from an early East Anglian bishop named Barnaby.
I can virtually imagine it ace!

I had never heard they were called that! Good ole fashioned ladybugs over here!
Love your verse 🙂

East Anglian dialect. Particularly Norfolk. It seemed apt since this seat was in a churchyard 🙂

I admit this one stumped me but you came through with a bang as usual! Another well done!

I guess this is one time when foreknowledge gave me the off, but possibly hampered others. It’s only because I knew of their local ‘clerical’ name that I could do it. So my apologies to those who were stumped. Never my intention

I enjoyed your fun read on these lil lady bugs. I was a bit lost on this image so I went with the peaceful way they were leaning on the wood. Enjoy … : )

I liked what you did with it. It suited the photo and the location (which you wouldn’t have known)

Thank you, Indira. I saw it as a quasi-folk rhyme 🙂
