Sunday Picture Post: A Walk to the Lakes

20th February dawns bright and sunny. Yay! We set out early, although we’ve not far to go, just to the southern bounds of the county. We’re walking to Lound Lakes. This is Part One: the “going to” part.

We thread our way though a little woodland.

Snowdrops in season, soon to be daffodils, then primroses and bluebells. For now, we’re happy to see through the trees

The woodland delivers us onto a small lane, then a bigger lane…

And here we arrive… now in Suffolk

Suffolk is noticeably hillier than Norfolk

We have no native pine trees. Those that now clad our hills were planted by Landed Country Gentlemen… The birch, however, is native

Looking down… the first of the lakes. I’m pretty sure these aren’t natural lakes but are flooded peat diggings, same as the Norfolk Broads

We’ll stop here for a while and take in the view. We’ll continue the walk next week. Meanwhile, don’t miss Tuesday Treats for a few seasonal flowers…
