CCC164: Here I Stand

It rains. And I stand here.
The wind howls. And I stand here.
It snows. And I stand here.
The sun shines bright. And I stand here.
But when the klaxon sounds
Calling my fellows from around the town
Then I’m first to our station, another soul to save.

The statue is of a Lifeboat Man. The Royal National Lifeboat Institute is manned mostly by unpaid volunteers. Founded in 1824, it has 238 lifeboat stations around our coast with 444 lifeboats.

*Manned* as in handed, for there are women crewmembers too
