Sea-mat stranded on the wrack-line, and partly covered with wind-blown sand. Sea-mat is the northern answer to coral. Its true colour is pale beige

These shots are only possible in that hour or so around sunrise when the sun is low in the sky, its rays raking the beach. It helps that it’s winter here and the sun is the furthest south (though now returning)

I don’t think I’ve ever seen sand blue like that, what intriguing images! I love how you get down and close to all those little details. Making mountains out of pebbles, with those long dawn shadows – nicely done!

We can thank the sun for that. During the winter months, when it’s furthest south, it doesn’t rise far into the sky, thus its rays rake the land and cast long shadows.
