Opening words from The Spinner’s Child

Gut the fish, scrape the scales, shell the nuts, pound the seeds. And what else could her mother find to stop her from idling and making up tales? But she wasn’t lazy; she preferred to be busy. And neither were her stories fancies. They were truths, had direct from clansfolk’s heads. She ought to learn it was best to say nothing. She was different, others hadn’t her trick.

Her mother glanced across to the neighbouring floor and upjutted her chin. ‘Boy-Bytan’s wanting to play, if you want to go.’

Kerrid quirked a smile. It would serve her mother well if she ran away instead. Except, run to where? To her death?

    • Thanks, Judy. You know, with everything else, I’ve not posted anything to celebrate the equinox. That’s unusual for me. Unusual days, I guess. 🙂

      • Judy says:

That is unusual for you!! But, your spring sprung in a big way anyway. Maybe not a celestial event but…..close!! 🙂

Last night I had only my iPad which doesn’t seem to let me hit the like button, so surprise the comment went through. Not sure what’s with the iPad and the Like button on WordPress sites.

Gonna go and see about buying the first paperback!! Whoo hoo!!

      • I’ve also been much distracted by the daily changes in the restrictions being applied because of the virus.
And thank you, Judy, you’ve been so supportive.
I owe you an email but it may not be this evening. I’m so behind on everything, and I try to get away from the laptop by 7:30 pm… 10 minutes!!!

I have already received my copy and will have three consecutive days after work today to slip into the world you have created for me. Do you wish me Bon Voyage, or Safe Travels? No don’t tell me. I want to find out for myself….

    • I wish you enjoyment… but must warn you. This is but the first small step into a multi-millennial puzzle

I feel like this was written by someone that was there, lived among them, knew their ways, spoke their vernacular. Are you sure you’re not possessed? I won’t say anymore till I am finished with it.

      • I’m going to break my morning’s writing to answer this, it’s such a welcome response.
I guess for those years I was writing and researching, I was living it in my head. Kerrid’s world became real for me. A lived world. It’s that world I’m now able to share.

  7. Congratulations, Crispina. What an achievement. Well done!
