Days were we fetched our water from a well. Days were the women met at tha village pump. But the wheel turns and leaves us only memories. And relics such as these.
When first I saw it, I thought by the wheel that this had been the old village well. But I notice there’s also a spout, more suggestive of a village pump. Yet I’ve never seen a pump with such a ‘handle’.
I like old implements and the like….very cool looking wheel.

one of those ‘have-to-have’ shots.

Interesting! I’ve stayed at camps and cabins where the only water was from a pump, and I’ve never seen a wheel mechanism on any of them. I’m not even sure how that would work, but presumably it does!

When I first saw it I thought it a well. Yet on closer inspection it definitely has a water spout, so I’m assuming it began life as a well, and was later converted. I have used both wells and pumps, but I’ve not encountered a pump like this. Puzzlement, that’s all I can say.

Thought: Perhaps the pump mechanism hasn’t survived?

Sounds like a reasonable guess to me.
