Every Wednesday I’ll post FOUR photos (if you want to get a head start you’ll find them marked in that week’s Sunday Picture Post and Tuesday Treats). Lots of choice!
And here they are:
You respond with something CREATIVE. Perhaps an answering photo, or micro-fiction, or a poem, or just a caption
As before, there are only two criteria:
!!!!! Your creative offering is indeed yours !!!!!
!!!!! Your writing is kept to 150 words or less !!!!!
If you post a link in the comments section of this post I’ll be able to find it.
Here’s wishing you inspirational explosions. And FUN

“The Drunken Cow” is a pub set in the drained and reclaimed lands of Norfolk. It sits on a pool, really just a wide spot in a stream. It is said all the ingredients for their beer, including the hops, are sourced from the surrounding land.
The name of the pub came from the only known cattle stampede in Norfolk, in 1847. The beasts had been served grain mixed with berries that had fermented. Unfamiliar with being inebriated, the entire herd panicked and overran a medieval church, destroying it, then proceeding on to the pool, where many of them drowned.
The pond was renamed Hell Pond for the beasts’ sacrilege. It serves as the water source for the pub’s beer. 25 pence of each beer goes to pay the pub’s exorcist.

Brian is that a true story? – it is very plausible 🙂

Thank you for the compliment. Alas, it’s fiction, but is based on some facts. As Crispina has informed me, much land in Norfolk has been drained. Birds have been known to get drunk on fermented berries. (Don’t stand underneath when they fly by!) And there is a Hell Pond not far from where I grew up. (It’s been renamed Mirror Lake, sadly.)

🙌Well congratulations I was well into it – cows getting drunk whats not to like …welll not the drowning in the lake though obviously 😄

I can add to that explanation. Quite close to where the cattle were grazing is a ‘pond’ marked on old maps as Hell Hole. Mmm. That’s eerie, Brian. As if you knew.

For what it’s worth, Crispina, many designations referring to the Devil or Hell in Massachusetts, where I grew up, refer to Native American gods, whom the pious Puritans regarded as devils. Though I’ve heard that apparently bottomless ponds often get a “Hell” name, too.

Thank you, Crispina! 😂💜 I don’t think Mum was expecting that either! Apparently, this little calf has decided that the grass isn’t greener on the other side — it just needs a good mowing! 🐄🤣
