This is usually a walk with plentiful butterflies, but not this day. Yet here are those we did see along our walk on 1st June 2026
🔼 ⏫ Painted Ladies are everywhere this year! 🔽 Though some look a little worse for wear!
🔼 This lovely bright winged flyer is a Gatekeeper 🔽 And the speckled winged flyer hiding deep amongst the leaves is a Speckled Wood
Now for the other flyers…
🔼 Red-headed Cardinal Beetle 🔽 Fat-thighed Green Bug (seriously)
🔽 Not yet able to fly, these caterpillars belong to the Small Egger Moth (according to Google). There are loads more inside that protective web
That’s all I have today. Maybe we’ll have more butterflies next week! See you then

I seldom see butterflies anymore- even though I know we have many species of them here- so this was a treat.

Pleased to give you a quick view. They’ve not been very prolific so far this year.

Like Violet, I seldom see butterflies – not a grand variety, anyway!
That painted lady looked like she’s been through the wringer!

The early butterflies have overwintered, which means hiding away somewhere, prey for the predacious spiders. Next, the arrive from the continent, battered by winds and rains. Often they land in my garden. Lucky me. Then finally, our newest outburst!

They are all so beautifully delicate unfortunately I don’t see a great variety theses days but it’s always a joy when one flutters by 🦋

The past couple weeks they seem to have disappeared. Usually my garden is like a Disney movie. Now, scarcely a one. I’m hoping this will soon improve
