January and February: such difficult months to know where to walk the camera. January 28th 2026, we resort to an out of season resort. Dry under foot and with the small harbour along the river, there’s sure to be something of interest at Southwold. So join us, please, and enjoy
πΌ β¬ Although our interest is the river, we can’t resist a look at the sea β¬ and a backward check on the lighthouse
Then it’s off down the road to the river. π½ A footpath branches off here to cross the common (too wet to be taken at the time of year!) but these sheds fascinate me. The black boards are typical of the fishing community here and with those red tile roofs they make quite a sight
πΌπ½ ‘Resort houses’. I’m not sure if they’re holiday lets, second homes or residential. They line the road down to the river
πΌ Looking across the river to Walberswick and beyond, where I wonder what’s the story with that lone building, shuttered for the winter π½
πΌ The ferry is closed. No surprise there, no customers at this time of year π½ Love to see all the boats moored, the weekend cruisers and the fishermen
π½ Ah, now here’s the place to eat (truth, we wait till we get back in town, but one day we will eat here). I expect it stays open throughout the winter for the many people here repairing their boats
πΌ A few of the many boats out of the water today and a glimpse of the puddles we’ve had to negotiate π½
Hope you enjoyed our out of season stroll. I love this resort, and I can be thoroughly obsessive about the boats, so I’ve intentionally reined that in so I don’t bore you to kingdom come.

Question- the sheds- are they renovated to become small businesses like the Sole Fish Shop- or are they just built to resemble them- I may have a story lurking with the combination regardless- but I still want to know- if you don’t mind for my Behind Close Doores Series again. I am thinking short poetry for CCC and then the story behind it? for BCD. lmk.

I don’t think so. I think they’re really are ‘sheds’, used by… whoever. They’re on the edge of the built-up area of the town, not down by the river

Well, I might have to recreate an inaccurate history then in my story- but that’s where my imagination comes in! Can I use those two photos in an upcoming post on my BCD Series- the same series I used the last one on?

The sheds and resort houses are fascinating. I’m going to hold onto this entire post; there may be a photo or two I can use for a story …. if that’s OK with you. Thanks, Crispina and happy Sunday.
