22nd May 2025 the weather forecast is forbidding and depressing. But at least it doesn’t say rain. So we catch a bus to south of our county border, then another to take us yet further. Altogether 3 hours of travelling (it’s quicker to go to London!) And here we are at Southwold. And the day is grey.
Grey is a lie. That sky’s more of a slate blue, and of course the sea reflects it. For a touch more colour, add in a dash of yellow ochre where the waves are churning up the sandy seabed πΌπ½
The great British beach hut, salvation from many a dull day at the beach, or shelter from the blistering sun πΌπ½
No, I don’t know what this guy is doing; I’m not very well informed on sea-sports πΌπ½ but I do recognise a pier when I see one. I’m not sure about sitting there with a coffee today!
Two different views. Eight miles (as the seagull flies) to south is Sizewell B power station πΌπ½ to the north, the promenade as reflected in a distorting mirror
We had planned on taking a footpath through a heathy-marshy area to north of the town, but that wind is so cold π₯Ά. Thus back to the seafront to catch a rare glimpse of blue sky. πΒ πΌπ½
There are seats on the cliff overlooking the sea and the promenade so we take our ease while admiring the shades of blue (not grey) πΌπ½
Time to move into town and seek out a place for lunch, then the 2 x buses back home (another 3 hours!) But despite the unfriendly weather, we’ve enjoyed our day. Hope you have too

Three hours of travelling each way! You are committed (or should be π )
May was miserable weather-wise all over, methinks, and yet, you managed to find lots of beauty.

Yes, I am crazy, I don’t deny it. And my eyes are always keened for interesting shots, which I much prefer to be beautiful, if at all possible!

It’s a wonderful thing that you can go out there!

Despite the injuries and lack of a car. Ah, our wonderful chug-a-long buses!

One thing I do miss, is living close to the beach. This was a nice trip- even if the weather chose not to cooperate all the way.

It’s ironic for me when I live so close to the beach, yet to get a change of scenery, I’ll travel 3 hours on a slow-moving bus

Though I do think we should have walked down to the river, lots of boats all all shapes, colours and sizes. But we’d done that back in January. We wanted a different vista

Very interesting photos Crispina! Looks like a great place to visit!

Hi Frank, and yes it is a great place to visit. Usually I head down to the river/harbour, cos I love the boats, but we’d decided to try the ‘marsh’ at the northern end, and then it was too cold and windy to venture there

I admire your persistence in getting there! It sounds like on of those days at the sea that blow the cobwebs away π

Oh yes, no cobwebs left. And the fact that the best fish & chip shop in East Anglia sits in Southwold is motivation enough!
