More fungi photos from our walk around Costessey Ponds and along Marriott’s Way on 25th October 2024. Enjoy
I’m thinking these are death caps, but I’m not sure. Certainly members of the Amanita clan
Above: Another Amanita, probably a Blusher.
A White Saddle, which is a new find for us. Very excited!
And back to the nameless…
But these above are certainly Inkcaps. And below, an abundant flourishing of the Honey Fungus (Armillaria)
That’s all for now folks. More next week

All these varieties is amazing

About 10 yrs back when I started photographing these fungi I attempted to identify each one and record it. But truly, it was beyond me. So many, and so many so closely resembling each other. These days I’m happy if I can name its family.

Great varieties indeed. Blusher mushrooms are poisonous if consumed raw, aren’t they?

Quite a few of the Amanita family are. Death Cap, False Death Cap and Destroying Angel are amongst the worst

We’re now at the height of the season. As with flowering season, the variety lessens as the weeks pass

There are very few I know the names of but I enjoy them just the same.

We don’t need labels to appreciate what the eye is seeing. Labels are only needed when we talk about them to others and want to be clear. Although “That red one with white spots” is recognised by most folks
