12th January and the weather forecast isn’t encouraging. Overcast and windy. But we board a bus to the next coastal town to south of us (Lowestoft) where we catch another bus…to the next coastal town to the south of there. Southwold. Please enjoy these photos of the day’s excursion…
St Edmund’s Church. I’ve a fondness for St Edmund, our patron saint before St George replaced him.
Adnams Brewery: Adnams and Southwold are synonymous! I love the smell of malted barley but my walking partner (my daughter) cannot abide it. Tastes!
Yep, that’s the lighthouse
And down to the promenade where the beach huts line up as if on parade. No sunbathing today
We head down to River Byth β not a big river β through what to us is familiar marshland. A check back over our shoulders to the water tower and golf course
At the river’s mouth…hints of how windy!
This is a fishing port, although it’s also home to pleasure yachts
Fresh fish, shrimps, crabs and lobsters…
Saying goodbye to the Blyth, we head back into town…
Sorry, we disturb the egret with our chatter
A last look across the marshland before we seek a fish-and-chip shop in town for our lunch, and then the bus home.
Hope you enjoyed this walk. Shame about the weather. For me, the highlight was the boats…but I’m leaving them for Tuesday Treats!
You made a bleak and fresh day exciting, great photos!

Thank you, Frank. Or maybe that’s the charm of Southwold? π

It does look like a blustery day. Lovely images and those little cabins pop with colour on the grey day π

I love Southwold if only to show how it highlights the splendour of the North Devon coast and scenery

But Southwold isn’t spoiled by tourism! π π π

Never sarcasm. I live in THE East Coast resort (used to be rated amongst the top 3) I have to go to Southwold to find a more natural look. I imagine the SouthWest coasts to be brimming too!
