Six: Five and Six reporting back, Captain. Mission complete.
Captain: Off you go then, Seven and Eight. You know what to do: Lay them straight.
Two (not long back from buckling shoes): Captain, sire, why must we do this every day?
Captain: Because, Elven-lad, it’s our everyday duty; they’re counting on us.

Clever, don’t know how many will appreciate the subtlety.

Oh, is it subtle? But I don’t do subtle. Crimson lays it on wth a rollingpin. 🙂

I think the implied allusion without blatant reference to the well known saying could be called subtle but I may be wrong, perhaps you did just bash the message out.

Oh absolutely. What, you think me amazingly brilliant? Nah, laddy, I’m just a tap-along-hack.
But joking aside, I thank you. 🙂

I thought and thought and thought about how to write something for your challenge and I couldn’t come up with anything. Love what you wrote!

Thank you, Susan. And I suppose some prompts do stump us. I know that, although they’re my photos, I do sometimes look at think … What!?!

I thank you, J. When I saw the sticks on the road, I was actually saying the rhyme to myself.

Were they having to do what I think they’re having to do everyday? If so it’s so sad.

Okay, so now I’m wondering if there’s another meaning to this. It’s just based on the counting game. But yes, they’d have to do it everyday cos others are dependant upon them.

This is so clever, Crispina!
I admit to not being overly inspired by a road picture this week.
Then again, I am fried from work. Been run ragged lately.

It’s always the chance when I post a photo prompt. Some will really go for it, others not. Right now I’m pondering next Wednesdays’ photo. When I uploaded it this motning (not knowing how long I’d be off-line) I thought, wow, what a wonderful prompt. Well, I’m sure something will come to me before then.
And you put your feet up and chill … just as soon as you can

There have been a few path-like picture prompts – and not just from you. Sometimes I just think… shit. Now what am I going to come up with?
I absolutely love what you did with this one! And hey, the day is not over, who knows? Maybe I will suddenly come up with something. Or find a matching picture 😉
I just realised I have NOTHING planned and I am perfectly happy with it!

It’s not a path, it’s a road. But I know what you mean. I try to avoid too many of the same kind of subject. I was going to do a steam train a few weeks back, but then I saw two other prompts using steam trains. So I thought I’d hold back on that one for a while.

Path/road – so to speak, You know what I mean!
And your prompt – your choice! Not everyone does all the different prompts.

I promise you next week’s photo is… different. Although, I suppose there is also a path. But it’s incidental.

Loved this! Very clever 🙂 I love the idea that it’s a mythical creature’s job to go out and lay sticks in the road for us to find. Fantastic!

Thanks, Sammi. This was part of the spate of exceptional inspiration that hit me this summer. O, woe, don’t say it’s gone west for the winter?

I’m sure it hasn’t. At worst it’s only having a kip. Mine was hibernating for about three weeks and only this week decided to rouse itself 🙂
And that last line – very poetic. It would make a great opening line for a longer piece 😉

As if I don’t have enough *longer pieces* 🙂
