There was a mummy, laid in a case.
Perfect legs, but smashed-in face.
What’s to become of him when he reaches eternity?
He’ll walk around in graceless anonymity.

I’m reminded about a comic book entitled “Sheba” by Walter Crane, that covered the afterlife of a mummified Egyptian cat and its misfortunes. 🙂

Sounds good. Oddly, we had a cat called Sheba when we were kids. Not mummified, though. 🙂

Combination of clip art with additional bits by yours truly. Quite a lot by yours truly.

I was going for the ‘faded’ look, like ‘ancient’. But it’s not a genuine Egyptian palette. They didn’t have purple, The later Roman so-called Imperial Purple was more of a crimson.

Considering that some mummy movies revolve around the concept that the person mummified was so evil that all traces of that person were supposed to have been erased (although one ALWAYS remains for our unfortunate Egyptologists), this is a kissing cousin.

That was the essence of the documentary that inspired the poem. Unfortunately I don’t remember who the speculated person was, I just remember the mummy was found ‘discarded’ with a couple of others in someone else’s tomb. Theory was that the tomb was built for the smashed-up mummy, but dynastic rebellion or something resulted in this attempt to deny this pharaoh an afterlife. All I can say with certainty is the Egyptologist uncovering this was Joann Fletcher (who was later barred from Egypt for promoting a theory the Egyptian authorities didn’t like.

Well, she’s got an armload of TV credits to her name, and most of the controversies I could uncover were on a different subject, a mummy she identified as Nefertiti’s (which was one of the reasons she was banned from Egypt). So, interesting to know you had an example in mind, but no clue here which mummy it was.

Excuse my lapse of memory. Back in 2013 I was still struggling with CFS. I’m surprised I remember as much as I do. And it could even have been the Nefertiti case, though I think not. I think there was something about remains of a mummy’s hair.

What lapse of memory am I supposed to excuse? I’m having trouble remembering . . .

Found it. Well, not the documentary, but the case. The write up is on Wiki, ‘The Younger Lady’. link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Younger_Lady
The documentary was on YouTube, but I haven’t found that yet. Oh, and not a pharaoh, but female.
