A scrambling climber with several names. Best known is Old Man’s Beard (for its fluffy-like seed heads). It’s related to the clematis we grow in our gardens.
Great Willow Herb: 10th August 2020
I’d been trying all summer to get a good shot of this one. The sun bleaches the colour, or the wind won’t leave it alone. But finally…
Field Bindweed: 10th August 2020
Another that’s tricky: the sun tends to bleach all the colour. Happy with this one. It was scrambling everywhere along the tracks and paths.
And that’s all for now, folks. I’m hoping to get out on Thursday, but if the weather prohibits I do have the photos I took this Saturday, and a story to go with them

Sounds gorgeous. We have heat forecast, but also a cooling wind. We’re going to Whitlingham Country Park… a lake, some wooded hills, a cafe and toilets. Oh, and plenty of seats for when the heat gets me. Hoping for fungi!!!!

It was a glorious temp to sleep in. Needed extra covers. Today, I am not sure what I will do. It is already 9:40 and my butt is firmly planted in my chair, coffee number 2 brewing.

I reached the age of decisions. To accept the grey, or to hide it away. But pale hair doesn’t look good on me. I look all washed out. It makes me glum. So… Intense Violet, the box says. It’s as purple as you can get without a specialist mix. Been like it a year now. I love it.

Great job getting the colors to pop even in the bright sunlight! And hooray, I finally recognized a flower: the poppy. If I had seen the thistle from a side angle I *might* have recognized it. (And what a wild hairstyle that would be indeed!) But none of the rest, so my score is still woefully low. I’d read about using tansy for herbal remedies but never seen the flowers before: thanks for the visual aid!

I recently (like… March?) read a book called “Where the Crawdads Sing.” One of the beautiful things was how she spoke of marshes as alive and full of beauty. This reminded me of those passages.

Thanks. But there are marshes, and then there are marshes. Our marshes have been drained since 1830-ish, so are no longer boggy affairs but offer all year round grazing of very sweet grasses. However, still to be found along the drainage channels are typical marshland flora and fauna.

Eastern North Carolina gets really marshy, especially near the sounds. I should go take some pictures when it’s not hardcore mosquito season.
