I dwelt upon the shore
With tides and rhythms
Known and sure
I didn’t venture far
An occasional dip
Into the forested hinterland
That wondrous place invited me
In forays brief
Delights I saw…
Yet when rather I’d be exploring
I fled the dangers I heard roaring.
What lay beyond those first few steps?
Others dived in
It seemed they could swim
While for me, fear turned me back each time
Until an unexpected Saracen met
With great care did take my hand
And led me there

You drew a good parable between the hesitation we feel in venturing out into the unknown and life itself.

Wonderful poem, Crispina.
And now I have “Crusader” by Chris DeBurgh in my head…

Sorry about that. And that’s not the Saracen I meant

No sorries – I like that song 😉

My pleasure, Shweta. I love to use symbolism, and this did in so many ways

You’ve captured well that fear of life and the freedom that comes with facing it – I found this very moving.

Thank you. There is so much within us we do not see, mostly we’re not even aware of (the subconscious) that sometimes we a guide to venture there. And then, oh, what wonders we find
