Norwich Cathedral: 15 Oct 2021
Look at this. What do you see? Beautiful, isn’t it. The praise of God made permanent in stone.
But look again and see the oppression of the Saxon race, Norman stone that crowded us out of our homes.
Three parishes flattened so they could build this to assuage their guilt. Our houses, our churches… and we could not pray in there instead. This was for their monks, not for the defeated Saxon people.
Beautiful, yes. A beautiful construction that flattened and destroyed us. But we lower our eyes and we obey and we live to fight another day.

Interesting bit of history and truth. But our views are usually a bit biased. She isn’t considering that the Saxons came from Jutland (Denmark) to crowd out the original occupants. 🙂

Um, yes no. The Saxons were the first to establish anything at this place. And mostly they moved in where Romans moved out. Celts (Iceni tribe) had their settlement a few miles south of here.

Interesting history, Crispina. I am always amazed at how many injustices we’ve done in the name of religion in our world’s history.

They were done in the name of religion because they had to be done in the name of something. Something usually had to be said to justify the deed. If religion wasn’t the culprit it would have been ethnicity or language or they’re just savages.
If nothing else, just plain greed and power, but few conquerors have ever admitted, “We’re greedy and want all your treasures. “

This is true. William of Normandy wanted England’s riches. He & his followers took whatever they could find. The worst offender was William’s half-brother, Odo Bishop of Bayeux, who emptied Canterbury cathedral of everything of worth

Twitter can be addictive. And while its Writing Community are very supportive, a great group of people, it can be very destructive of good writing practices. However, it is the main platform for promoting my books, and it works

If it wasn’t for that I’m not sure I’d be quite such a regular contributor. But I do have some good supportive friends there as well. And I’ve announced this morning that I’m taking time off Twitter to focus on me.
