“Why have you shut the stable door?”
“Why? To shut him up, of course. All day long, talk, talk, talk. All right when he was younger, when he was earning a crust. But now Mr Ed’s old… I couldn’t take any more of it.”
“You don’t mean you’ve shut an old man in there?”
“Old… man? No. I’d never shut an old man in there. No, that’s the home of Mr Ed, the Talking Horse.”
Haha, Ed the talking horse! Thank God he is not reciting poetry! Lol

I wasn’t sure how many people would realise who Mr Ed was… so I had to einclude the clip

I remember Mr. Ed. I always wondered how they got the horse to move his mouth, but maybe that is what horses do.

Yep. I think that’s what horses do 🙂

Ha ha! As soon as I saw the title with that image, I knew where you were going. Funny story, and yes, I can see how even a talking horse can get dull if he turns into an old chatterbox!

I wondered how many would recognise it. Seems quite a few did 🙂

It wasn’t my first thought… but having locked someone in the stable to keep them quiet, who else could it be but a talking horse 🙂

Well one part of me can think of plenty of people but another part knows that that’s not the way to deal with them. 😄

I do remember watching this show as a kid. (If it was popular and in retrospect ridiculous, we watched it. Except westerns.) But I’m happy to say I either never saw or don’t remember this particular episode.

I vaguely remembered the show. But I hadn’t seen this clip. It’s what YouTube offered me

I’m finding out my childhood memories of TV shows are quite selective, generally. Understandable; many I haven’t seen since childhood.

We didn’t have TV till I was coming on 11. And I was always outside, in the woods, making spears and bows and arrows and getting into mischief. So I probably only saw winter programmes. I remember Robin Hood, & Boots and Saddles, and Sir Ivanhoe.

Robin Hood (I presume we’re talking the Richard Green version from the 1950s) played on New Hampshire’s only VHF channel, which we could get, and was a great favorite of mine.

That’s the one. And Roger Moore played Ivanhoe. They provided the inspiration for our games, the need of spears and bows & arrows. Trees became castles

While we were inspired by the bad monster flicks of the 1950s and 1960s to create a variation of “Tag” called “Monster,” in which the person who was “It” could capture people by shooting rays at them.

Reminds me of my brother’s Bang-bang, you’re dead.’ To which his clever friend replied, ‘Clank-clank, I’m a tank.’

Mr. Ed was an interesting show. It didn’t come on much when I was growing up, but the concept is easy to get.

I probably only saw it a couple times. Wasn’t much for watching TV

I’ve seen so much TV it’s obscene. Granted, most of it was before college, but… a lot.

I grew up before it became the norm… anf I haven’t slipped into it since
