I might have taken to penning romance, but here’s my answer to those who seek to see a transformation
What lies delight us
How eager to believe our self-induced illusions
That here is love and here is truth
And here is the answer to a prayer
So keen to lap at this glittering feast
Not wanting to see this…this focus of our intense affection
Is nothing but our own projection
Love this Crispina! Yours is my first poem of the day and it rings so true.

Thank you. See what you’ve done to me!
Yea, there is truth. Though it may not be current 🙂

There’s our cynical Crispina.

Indeed there is, Padre. Too many times I’ve played the agony aunt, and listened to bewildered hearts

Your beautiful verse reminded me of a painful experience – May I share with you.
Time Remembers
Your truth of yesterday becomes a lie tomorrow,
I can’t believe you were evil disguised in the words of an angel,
I lie to myself about you, but I never believe me,
The deep wound you caused, it will not heal,
Healing takes courage and you have destroyed mine,
I wish my trust was within you,
Now I don’t know who I am anymore.

Thank you for the share. I hope you have healed since then. If not, that you soon will

I think when you fall in love with someone, how do you know how they really feel about you? It could be projection, but in the end you have to hope and trust their feelings for you are similar to yours.

I believe it’s somewhere we all have been. With the passage of time, and repetitions, one learns to look before one leaps… which sure as hell takes the fun away but saves on broken ankles!

Cynical? Maybe
Realist? Probable
Is it wrong to desire this projection to actually be true? Hell no. That’s what love is all about. You have to go through many hoops sometimes to find the real thing.
You’ve got this poetry thing down, Crispina!

I believe one should be aware of the possibilty that what you see is what you want to see, rather than the truth. That’s where my cynicsm lies.
Then as time passes, the truth emerges… and two people now are hurting

Yes, one must. However, one must not allow this possibility to blind us from the reality – which might actually be on the side of good!
Hurting is, unfortunately, part of life.

I’d say that the poem was addressed to my younger self

Indeed. To project one needs a pre-existing image. And that one has been destroyed. I’ve stopped asking why

Ofttimes the projection comes from all those silly fairy tales we read as children. Nothing real about those!

Ofttimes yes. And all those nights of wishful thinking. And those women’s magazines with articles about ideal men.
It takes a few years to shed all them…. note, I haven’t read such tosh for many a year

Oh gawd yeah… Young girls are inundated with these unrealistic images and thoughts about what is what…
It does. Some women never do, sadly.

“Our Self-Induced Illusions.” At first, I thought this was something to eat and I thought yum.
But no, it’s a flower and I gave them up. Too sweet.

I liked this. Wherever we put our heart, we put our treasure – and sometimes our heart goes in useless directions!
