At the Back-End of Great Yarmouth

Ah! Released from my comfortable prison… fresh air. I took the camera out for a walk, although only as far as Breydon Water which, as I said on yesterday’s post, is the estuarine confluence of three rivers. And here are a few of the shots…

The back end of town…. 12th May 2020

Salsify, an expected find, clearly a garden escapee: 12th Mary 2020

A golden agricultural escapee… Rapeseed oil: 12th May 2020

Grown from a discarded apple: 12th May 2020

Pepperwort, a humble native: 12th May 2020

Wow, who knows what I might have for you next week.

Lovely photos, Crispina! If I may ask, what camera do you use for your photography?

    • Canon EOS 1300D, known as the Rebel in the States, apparently. And I only use the lens that came with it. Not mega zoom, but sufficient.

Hmm… and everything is set on auto? Because the last image seems to give the impression like the white balance is off. Maybe it’s the light but since it’s a dslr I would expect it to capture the colors better. Mine’s canon too and it’s not an slr but one of Powershot 740 hs series yet shot quality stays fantastic. So your Canon EOS would pack a way better punch than mine.

      • I have it set on AV, though most often it remains on f8. That first photo, the vista, was on f14. Also, I have it on *bright sunlight* cos I find then I can play with the photos when I get home. And usually that works well for whites, but this was a bright day, and the pepperwort was bleaching, and I don’t have the polaroid filter. So I had to play with it on Polarr (the software I use) to play down the white and try to bring out the form. I’d taken several photos of this plant, and this was the best one. And I wanted to include it.
BTW, I have the focus on auto cos I have a problem with my eyes and autofocus delivers the best.

How wonderful to escape into the fresh air! I hope you didn’t need to lean on your hiking stick too much. You found some beautiful colors. I appreciate the little insights into the plants being escapes from landscapes, or the result of a discarded apple core: constructing the backstory of the field, laid out in horticultural clues.

    • I didn’t take me stick with me. I’d have walked much further if I had. I took it today. Back held out ok, but I need to do some work on my butt. Aching from unaccustomed exercise… didn’t help I walked half the way on the beach.

I know what you mean about aching that first time you go out after not going out for a while. Hopefully you are on an upward trend and will feel stronger soon. Walking on sand is the worst! Visually I love being on beaches, but trying to actually get from place A to place B is a real workout for someone with bad knees.

      • *My*, not me. My fingers keep doing this.
When I used to go south for my holidays, all week walking the Downs, or the Mendips, or the Wiltshire hills, I would spend the preceding weeks on the beach, toughening my legs. Cos everyday walking around here is flat. There are hills in Norfolk, but not close to home.
