Neve did a last-minute check of all things electrical. Then Rat came behind her and powered the computer. She half-heartedly scowled at him. He accessed iTunes and scrolled and selected – oh what a surprise – Talking Heads, This Must be the Place. He sang along that home was where he wanted to be.
“Is this appropriate just as we’re leaving?” Neve asked.
“For the sake of my sanity, please change that tune,” Kaz shouted from the utility room.
“But listen to this,” Rat said. “The words are bang on. And the drums, I love the drums!”
“Led’s best for drums,” Neve said. “John Bonham’s Moby Dick.”
“No words. But I’ll grant you Whole Lotta Love.”

Not entirely new… an excerpt from wip: Learning to Fly. And for those unfamiliar with the song… (expect a long intro, about 1:05)
Pick me up and turn me around
I feel numb, born with a weak heart
I guess I must be having fun
Make it up as we go along
Feet on the ground, head in the sky
It’s okay, I know nothing’s wrong, nothing
Oh! You got light in your eyes
And you’re standing here beside me
I love the passing of time
Never for money, always for love
Cover up and say goodnight, say goodnight
But I guess I’m already there
I come home, she lifted up her wings
I guess that this must be the place
I find you, or you find me?
There was a time before we were born
If someone asks, this is where I’ll be, where I’ll be oh!
Very nicely done Crispina! Especially with the addition of music. 🙂

Remember the words to that song when you reach the end of Learning to Fly, and you’ll see how relevant they are. 🙂

Through part one… only another three parts to go. But it’s good that you’ve got that far. Lots of people are finding it difficult to focus on reading at the moment, myself included. I’ve started several books, only to set them aside and try something else. So, pat on the back to you and a big hug. 🙂

Thanks for the hug. But it worries me that you’re losing focus. You’re usually so organized and disciplined.

Not losing focus per se, no trouble writing, just having trouble finding a book that satisfies. But many folks are losing focus.

Thanks. I thought of you as I wrote that line… well, when I wrote it this time, since it is part of the last chapter of Learning to Fly.

Oh you thought of me… now that makes me happy! 🙂 Learning to fly is your new novel or a sequel in the Spinner’s game series?
LikeLike
It ties in with The Spinner’s Game by being set in the same fantasy-world, and sharing some of the characters. But it’s several thousands of years later. Like, it’s contemporary set, as apparent by the excerpt. Although, no, actually, it’s kind of a time-slip 🙂

Interesting! Sounds like you have put in quite a lot of work into creating an intricate fantastic world. 🙂

This was great! Love the putting together of the story, music and association to your WIP… and this is a great song, to boot. And I don’t know why I didn’t get my notification in my emails…

Oh dear, that gremlin is getting to be a nuisance. You’re not alone in suffering. And yea, the song: Learning To Fly has songs all the way through, though copyright won’t allow me to insert the words. But it’s a major source of discord between Neve and Raesan, and the magnet that attracts her to Rat. Music is important to her life, music with muscle, as she says. And this track just says it all.

Really? You can’t include the lyrics? Weird. I love when a song says exactly what we want
LikeLiked by 1 person
Well, I could include the lyrics, but I’d have to apply for a licence, and I don’t know how much that would cos that last I knew, there wasn’t a standardised rate of charge. And then you might pay for a licence for 100 copies, and then have to apply again before you can sell any more. It’s a quagmire and I’d rather not go there. It’s not the same as when we use stuff on our blogs and tweets; we’re not making money, we’re not selling it.

Yep, it was my intention to make this hunorous. Although, when it’s read in its entirety (which you can if you want to beta read, otherwise must wait( you’ll discover they do intend to return.

If you’re ok with a very slow (VERY slow), I might be able to pull off a beta. That’s if you want.

I’m allowing the betas 4 months to read 150k words (in four parts), and to answer the 4 questionnaires. Can you handle that?

Def can do that

You are brilliant. What format do you want e.g. Word.doc, pdf etc? And would you prefer we continue this by email?
LikeLike
Yeah, email. pdf if you want me to stick to just questionnaires, docx if you want in-line comments as well.

I’ll email the word doc. But don’t feel you must make the in-line comments. Thank you. 🙂 Arriving shortly
