This is like MacD’s & other fast food places having to write on their coffee cups: Caution: Hot liquid. And zoos with signs: Caution, dangerous animals. Do not put your hands in the cages.

I have a growing collection of odd or interesting signage. Like the road sign for a left-hand curve just before the road bends to the right. Humph.

😁 A friend once forwarded a mail that had all sorts of idiotic signs and posters from around the world. Whenever I travel, I often stay on the lookout for such faux pas and they crop up everywhere, irrespective of the local language of the region I am in. We, humans, really aren’t very good at communicating! 😛

Love that. I studied graphic design at college… signage is the mainstay. And I admit to being one of the worst for not double-checking.

Oooh.. I once felt the seduction to take up graphic designing. It didn’t last. I get that we all make typos now and then. I remember just a few weeks ago I wrote a phrase where I omitted “of”…not once or twice but thrice! In the same para! But posting a sign for everyone to read takes another level of cautiousness. And usually, more than one set of eyes read it before it passes the final stages of inspection. So I think it’s okay to point at the sign and laugh. 😛

My worst typo was’t on signage but in an open letter to the press. The GM’s secretary was on holiday, so he sent his dictated letter on tapee to me process, I duly did. And I put it through spellcheck. But PUBLIC is still a legit word when the L is omitted!

😱😂😂😂 Oh, man! This was…! I am so sorry it happened to you and hey, it wasn’t even your fault…technically. It wasn’t! I would have missed that too. Plus, it was such an honest, hilarious mistake. 😄 Did you come out of it okay? I hope that secretary had a sense of humor.

Total disaster and public humiliation was averted. I took the printout to the GM for signing. Who read it through first. And almost fell off his chair laughing while I looked on in mystification.
He was the best GM I’ve ever known. And I don’t just say that cos he promoted me. 🙂
