In her bed yet in her head
In her sleep, no place to keep
Creeping through sleep’s fragile film
In a dream, through veils unseen
Into a world that is not ours
Where five minutes lived might yet be hours
Or hours be but a second breath
To walk with folk who might be foe, kith or kin
Who yet behave like conscripted actors in the walker’s scenes,
Acting out the somnambulist’s fears and hopes and daily cares
78 words written for Sammi’s Weekend Writing Prompt: Somnambulist
I love the rhythm to this poem and the poetic image. Very well written

This has a bewitching quality to it. As if a spell has been cast. Brilliant.

Glad you like. I liked the idea of someone walking through their dreams, and maybe into another world.

“Who yet behave like conscripted actors in the walker’s scenes…” This really captures the alien quality of sleepwalker’s dream. Absolutely love it!

Thank you. Guess I pulled upon personal experience!

Oh? Do you still experience it? Seems like it must be terrifying at times…

No, I worded it badly. I don’t sleep walk, but I do walk in my dreams 🙂

Well that can be terrifying too… sometimes. 🙂

I no longer fly.

I don’t remember ever flying in mine… but if I did, it couldn’t have been terrifying, or so I would like to think.

Sometimes there’s a lack of control, which can be scary. But it’s quite fun to go looping over the treetops

Perhaps I’m more grounded ?

Nothing wrong with being more grounded but you can always give flying in real life a try…say, gliding? 🙂

I do love flying… in small planes, like 4-seaters. But I can’t always afford the pleasure

Sign of a miss-spent youth… middle age, old age… 🙂 But, thank you.

All three miss-spent? Not possible. I’m sure you’ve learned from the earlier ones.
Whatever that was/is your poem is still beautiful 😁

Miss-spent doesn’t necesasarily mean nothing learned.

Of course not. It’s an opportunity “To learn.”

Imaginative take. I think we all walk to some mysterious place for some time in our sleep. I loved the idea of walking to another world in sleep.

In part inspired by the speculation that we don’t think our thoughts in our head, but that we receive them from another dimension.

Reminds me of Edgar Allen Poe. Great job.

The way you’ve conjured up the beauty and terror of this parallel dimension, it’s mystical❤ Keep writing!

Thank you, Dale. I will admit to it being one of my better compositions. I mean, I like it too 🙂

And that’s fantastic. I laugh at myself because often the ones I struggle over or am unsure of get the most compliments.

It’s always a risk with poetry in particular how others will read it
