The birch, first amongst trees, seems to be host to every species of fungus… seems to be.
This one’s a birch polypore, though not in its usual hoof-shaped form. Truly, I felt sorry for the tree, to have such a growth bursting forth.

Interesting. Looks like a vegetable! 🙂 Nice one Crispina!

Thank you, Deborah. I chose it for its weirdness; it’s not its most common form.

OUCH! that looks positively painful. We have birch trees but they are of the white skinned variety and to date I have never seen one with such a bulbous growth!

This is the only one I’ve seen like this. The same fungus usually presents itself as kinda hoof-shaped, clinging on to the trunk (though the stalk that joins them is usually visible from underneath). The reminded me of that moment in Aliens where the creature bursts forth from its host’s chest 🙂

Just reading your comment back to Violet. I remember that moment in Aliens oh so well 🙂 Happy Sunday!

Seems incongruent, the juxtaposition of the two elements. Makes me laugh. Happy Sunday to you too 🙂
