Welcome to my weekly challenge—open to all—just for FUN, FUN, FUN

Here’s how it works:

Every Wednesday I post a photo (this week it’s that one above.)
You respond with something CREATIVE

Here are some suggestions:

  • An answering photo
  • A cartoon
  • A joke
  • A caption
  • An anecdote
  • A short story (flash fiction)
  • A poem
  • A newly minted proverb, adage or saying
  • An essay
  • A song—the lyrics or the performance

You have plenty of scope and only two criteria:

  • Your creative offering is indeed yours
  • Your writing is kept to 150 words or less

The photo shows the upper portion of the Winter Gardens, a peoples palace of metal and glass constructed in 1878 in Torquay. It was transported to Great Yarmouth in 1904.

    The earliest observed example of a seagull being transfixed by a spire happened in Great Yarmouth on 17 July 1906 at the Winter Gardens. The seagull was bronzed in place and can still be seen there today. So carefully and completely was this done that visitors can use high-powered binoculars (available at a nominal charge) to see the bronzed seagull poop dripping down the spire.

    According to locals, new bronze seagull poop is observed just prior to any major calamity befalling Great Yarmouth, first appearing just prior to the zeppelin bombardment of 19 January 1915. Other notable occasions on which new poop appeared include the death of Sir Arthur Harbord, MP, in 1941, and the cancellation of a Beatles concert in 1963.
