Is it a reference to the musical “Into the Woods”?

    • A brilliant, brilliant, brilliant musical. But no.
      Or, sort of.
The magic beans belongs to the Jack & the Beanstalk story, which is part of the *Into the Woods* story. But that’s are far as it goes. Jack barters the family cow for the beans. In truth, to get down to origins, that cow is the cosmic cow, from which the world or universe was formed. But by the time Jack’s story came about, that was forgotten.
The diamond and sapphire garter refers to marriage. Brides are supposed to wear something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue. The usual answer is to borrow a friend’s blue garter. I’m sure those garters do the rounds, available to all brides in the social group. But also, diamond and sapphire is a common choice of engagement ring.
All very complex, when all I wanted was a rhyme!
