Sheringham, a quaint fishing village on the North Norfolk Coast was my resort of preference when my children were young. In those days, at low tide, there were rock pools with sea anemones and hermit crabs. But erosion and accretion has changed so much of our coastline. The beach has risen! Those groynes used to tower above me. Now I can hop over them.
For me, this is as close as I can get to The Great Outdoors, which title I claim for the #2019picoftheweek challenge

Looks the perfect place to relax…! I would love to spend a weekend there ๐

It is the perfect place to chill. Plus when the tide comes in it lashes the sea defences, releasing all that healthful oxygen-laden spray. Invigorating.

Wow! What a beautiful description! And I’m sure, it must have some unique culture behind it ๐

It tends towards the traditional folk culture. Thus it hosts a Morris Dance Festival. The link shows a part of last year’s festival.

Well, youtube has loads of videos of last year’s festival. I think they were going for a Guinness Book of records. But of them all, I liked the Witchmen best.

What is the Witchmen?

It’s the name of the morris dancer’s band in the video I linked to. They all have different names. Just like rock bands.

I am sorry, I haven’t checked out your video yet…
(Actually, I ought to study now and in secrecy I’m blogging… If I make sound, Mother will know and I will get a scolding ๐ )
Thank you so much for giving me such knowledge ๐

I shouldn’t encourage you to skivv off. But … since you’re learning something. But what are you supposed to be studying?

School things… Well, I there’s just a part of copying left. I thought knowledge is greater than mugging up ๐

Sometimes. Though I do remember saying, But I’ll never need to know that when I leave school. Yet much of it I’ve needed, at different times.

I want to go there! (Alas, it’s a little far.)

A little too far for a day trip, true. Even for me, living just down the coast, it took two and a half hours on public transport to get there. Which is why I don’t often visit.

Good one Crispina! A beautiful shot on a beautiful day of a beautiful landscape. I bet those guys went for a pint or two after that. LOL

Yea, it’ll be on a Saturday. Which means congested traffic on top of the already two & a half hours of travel. Now, if I could hire a boat ….

I took loads of photos where recent cliff-falls had revealed the geological layers. But no fossils. Mammoths have been found here, and woolly rhinos and early humans. I just found a golf ball sitting amongst the sea-tossed stones (there’s a links golf course on the cliff tope!)

I remember one year on holiday here we tried our hands at flint knapping. To discover it a skill not immediately mastered!

Had to look it up. Most of these skills look easier than they are!

Such as making fire with two sticks. Heck, I can’t even make it with two stones. We’ve lost the knack; easier to use matches or a lighter. The only ancient skill I have is hand spinning (not a spinning wheel) and weaving, and plaiting, and treating and sewing leather, though I’ve only worked on rabbit skins. And I guess I might make a passable pot. Oh, and from my child-days I know I can make a reasonably sturdy waterproof shelter from sticks, stems and leaves.

Seems to me you can make plenty more than us average Joes!

Possibly. Though I’d say it’s more than I have more inclination to try, because it interests me, because my writing has been set in that technological period and it helps at least to try the tricks.

That seems like a pretty “great outdoors” place to me. Which probably means I need to get back into the woods for a while again.

It’s a good place to chill. Liminal, magical, the meeting of land, sea and sky.

It does sound magical.

It is. Though I was surprised on this latest visit by the number of high street shops. They used to be absent. Though they are only cubby-hole branches.
