But I was the oldest, I couldn’t refuse it.
‘Okay, Mr Troll, I’m crossing it now.’

It was a place of dares, since the line was still open to the occasional goods train. But me, I never took chances. Those heavy steam-breathing beasts, froze me proper.

I can so picture it as exactly that!!

It wasn’t so overgrown in those days. And while in its heyday there had been a station not far from the bridge, the goods train chugged along without stopping at far as Reepham (about 15 miles on).

This is part of a favourite walk of mine. So I’ve watched the changes over time. Since I was a noxious schoolkid, though to now. I believe there’s more fungi now 🙂
