If you’d like to lend your services, to read, to enjoy, to answer a few simple questions—could you understand that scene, did this or that grate, have I overinformed, underinformed, who did you like best etc—then please, don’t be put off by the fact this is the fourth in the quint and you don’t know ‘the story so far’. Asaric Sons, WT (Book Four) Blurb
The Spinner has tasked Kerrid to eradicate the snake-demon Neka, believed responsible for the Asars banishment from their high World of Divinities. It seems an impossible task. For if the Spinner can’t kill the demon, how can she? Yet Kerrid is convinced, if she can return to the World of Divinities, she’ll find the answer there.
Unable to use the pole of Book Three, Kerrid now tries a different strategy. There are holes in the sky, and one is above Black Mother Mountain in Gushan, familiar from her child-days. If she returns there, if she climbs the mountain … But there she faces an obstacle. Her sister.
Kerrid’s childhood nemesis, her sister has forbidden Kerrid access to Gushan, and her sister is the keeper of the demon in physical form. That demon has taken everyone Kerrid ever loved: her father, her foster-mother, the Linershunn who gave her shelter, Jedren her mortal lover, father of the child she now carries.
Now she must protect that infant, keep him safe from the demon. Yet also she must complete her task. Troubled times lay ahead for her.

As far as revisions, rewrites and edits are concerned, The Spinner’s Child, Book One, is now locked down. Happiness time, awaiting the day when I can release three together. Moreover, its cover is nailed, thanks to my brilliant critique partner, cover designer Lauren Willmore. But we’re not finished yet.
As the beta-readers will know, each of the five books comprise five parts. And each of the five parts has a title. And now each of the five parts are to have a title-page design. Part One: On Eagle Wings is now in my excited possession.
‘Any suggestions?’ Lauren asked.
And I answered, ‘Beardsley-esque.’
And Lauren delivered. Lo!

Asaric Skies WT (Book Three)
I had already snipped the opening chapters of this book to append to Lake of Dreams (Book Two) and am satisfied with the change. Now I’m changing certain parts of the ending to ramp the tension yet further, wrap an inclusive arm around key characters who I’d previously allowed to fade and, in my opinion, vastly improve it. With the rewrite completed, I shall need a trusty beta to check it out for me. Probably by Easter, so if you’re interested watch this space.
And I guess that’s all I can report for now. Several steps closer to that nail-biting day when I announce the launch.

Such a process!! I have to give you kudos for being so on top of things as all of this progresses. I enjoy watching from the sidelines, your organizational skills are admirable, and this coming from someone that considers herself quite adept at organization!!

Oh, my lord, that’s so exciting! Lauren’s done such a beautiful job of both title pages and the covers – they’re just beautiful. I’m so pleased for you that everything is coming together so wonderfully after all the hard work you’ve put into the series. Gorgeous, Crispina, really gorgeous. Well done to both of you 🙂

I thank you, Lynn. There are times the hill feels very steep, and never ending. But then I turn back (once a month in the recaps) and seen where I’ve been and am astounded by what I’ve achieved. But it wouldn’t be possible without beta readers, and a certain critique partner who turns out to be a wizz at cover design. And she always knows exactly what I want. :

I let Microsoft George read it for me, and my ear is so keen to errors and rhythm that it jumps out at me. But it can take several hours to get one paragraph right. But then I might zoom through the next several paragraphs or even pages. I know what needs to changing so … but it can be exhausting. And after 6 or more hours, I need a change. So I’m now looking at The Hare and the Adder as the first non Spinner’s Game Asaric Tale to follow the quint. Trouble with that is I have so many versions of it, including one I posted online as a Time-Slip Sci-fi/Fantasy. Ekes, work. 🙂

It is, which is why I need something different to change to; either that or I flake out in front of YouTube.
The Hare & the Adder was the book that started it all. It was with an agent when my brain took a virus and for a few months disabled me. When I picked up the thread, I decided to take the story back to the beginning, with now is The Spinner’s Game.
H&A is set neolithic Western Europe, Kerrid acts as Catalyst, but the real players are Asars of 2nd & 3rd generation. Some of the names will be familiar from Books 4 & 5 of RThe Spinner’s Game, plus the Eld puts in an appearance, as does Urinod, plus two Asar you’ve not yet met. Oh, yes, and Ardhea. Way back in 2005 it was a simple story, a fight for a stolen birthright. Now … somewhat more complicated. And I’m trying to work out how many VPs I need. And as you know, I simply love the plot and structure stage … which is why it’s relaxing after concentrated editing.

I’m quite looking forward to just writing after I get Made of Earth edited, so I definitely know what you mean! I love how much potential your series has for continuation throughout time!

But you too have further books planned. But I reckon by the time I’ve edited, revised, rewriten and polished Book Five, I might need a complete change of characters. But, no, they continue. But the culture is different, and the environment, beliefs, clothes, fabric … etc

Coincidentally, I was just pawing through a lot of Beardsley illustrations for Malory, to explain what Shakespeare’s sources thought the history of England was.

Hey, I talked about “Salome” in my Roaring Twenties course, thanks to the silent film done of the play.

I like the Salome collection. I was much influenced, style-wise, by Beardsley when I was at Art College (the style lends itself to screen prints rather well). So when Lauren asked if I’d got any ideas reagrds style for these page designs, I said Beardsley. And Lo! She’s good, you know.

I thank you, Dale. The thing is to just keep going. When I have the whole day free, I work all day, otherwise it’s only a half day, and I take a full day off every week. I treat it as a job, but one that I like, that’s done for me, not some demanding employer. It’s satisfying, though I do admit it is tiring.
And yea, Lauren’s designs are fabulous. And you should see the one’s I’ve not yet posted. Drool-worthy. 🙂
