The Coldness came again today
Unlike love and luck and happy days
That look around and then not stay
The Coldness came again today
And stayed.
The Coldness came again today
Unlike love and luck and happy days
That look around and then not stay
The Coldness came again today
And stayed.
Cold is always associated with gray skies and landscapes in my mind. Once when traveling through the Berkshires (the American region, that is) on a November morning, I saw that just the mountain tops had been dusted with snow, and stood out only as a brighter gray against the sunless sky. I was driving a car, it was nice and toasty inside, but just seeing that chilled me.

Which is why I chose that particular scene from the ones WP offered as ‘winter’. The others were deep blankets of white, all Christmas card-looking . . . which is the world outside my window this morning. But being on the coast, everything naturally filmed with salt, snow doesn’t lay long. So as you say, cold is the greyness that had preceeded the snow for several days.

Reading this poem brought to mind on of my favourite poems by Robert Frost “Nothing Gold Can Stay” I guess that rings true so many times, that what is happy, perfect or beautiful, doesn’t last or isn’t meant to . That why we have to savor those moments of love, luck and happiness!!
I think your words are truly evocative, lovely and tinged with sadness.

My friend ‘Iris Einstein’ has a theory relating to that: on what makes certain things special. But I’ll leave that for her to explain. She has a whole bag full of theories, some a tad off-beat (she is, after all, my friend), others verging upon things ‘academic’. I hope you’ll enjoy her (probably infrequent) contributions. 🙂
