OMG!
Halloween!
Trick and Treat!
You should see the kids in our street
Their costumes aglow
Gothic and ragged
The local dogs hide
The cats go scat
For these indominable spirits
Are truly running amok
35 words written for Sammi’s Weekend Writing Prompt: Amok

Of course, that’s what Halloween’s for. Though I have to say, it’s something more celebrated in US than in UK, and yes, there are historical reasons.

The family/kiddie side of it was instigated to counter and distract the annual violence which erupted amongst the Irish immigrants. We had Irish workers in England too, but they weren’t a new thing

I miss those days of waiting on the street while my kids go trick or treating…
Back when there were lots of kids running amok!

Trick or treat was just beginning to catch on when my kids were young. And it certainly wasn’t the big thing it is in America
