This old heart is not so fit
It needs repair
Though nothing now will make it tick
As it did in former years
It has been tormented
Has been teased
Has sought repose
A chance to beat alone and so to ease
It has been torn
Been broken
Shattered
It has been treated like it doesn’t matter
It has been excited
And that’s the worst
To soar the heavens
Until the bubble bursts
This old heart has taken tumbles
Has tried and it has stumbled
But despite its ruinous slew
This ramshackle heart I give to you

That’s a sad one. I appreciate that your heart is out there and that you share things like this.

Thank you. Inspiration comes. It’ll probably stay away for the next month

Oh yes, the heart wants what the heart wants, so needy yet so fragile. I hope yours mends.

Thank you, Frank, though mine’s not broken. It’s a wise old thing despite being a tad frayed in parts.

Dear Crispina,
Such a lovely and tender poem. Our hearts do take a beating over the years, don’t they?

Indeed they do. But how else to gain wisdom? It doesn’t just snuggle up to us and plonk onto our laps.

Again on a Sunday! You are on a roll, my friend.
As for this beautifully written poem, it is full of pain and hope as that ole heart is not giving up. That organ does take a beating…

It does indeed. Especially by the time you get to my age. But it’s gently beating now. I think it’s in good hands (for a while)

Oh, I’ve had my share at my age, too 🙂 But yes. And I think, as long as your hands are also there, you’re good 🙂

Nicely written, Crispina. I enjoyed it, even if it reflects sadness.

Thank you. I don’t see it as sad but a celebration of a life of loving (often unwisely)
